Pipelines & Pipeline Integrity Projects

Client:      PanCanadian Petroleum Ltd.
Project:     Jackpot Creek Pipeline Project
Location:       Jackpot Creek area of northern Alberta
Description:  The project involved the design of insulated gas gathering and sweet fuel gas pipelines to tie-in sour gas production from four sour gas wells. All gas is gathered for further processing at the Conoco Steen River Gas Plant. This was a winter only access and construction project due to the muskeg terrain. Reheat line heaters were installed along the gathering laterals and main gathering line. All facilities were designed for 2.5% H2S sour gas service. The initial typical wellhead flowing pressure was 8,000 kPa at 36°C. The gathering system consisted of one main gathering trunk line ( NPS 10/NPS 12) and one main fuel gas line ( NPS 3 ) installed in a common right-of-way. Production from outlying wells is gathered in NPS 6 pipelines and tied into the main trunk line. All lines are designed for 2.5% H2S, with ESDV stations at two major water crossings and at an intermediate location to limit EUB classification to Level 3. Sweet fuel gas for the wellsite facilities is purchased from the processing plant and supplied to each site via a sweet fuel gas pipeline. Fuel gas pipelines are constructed to sour standards to allow future use of these lines in sour service. The NPS 12 and 10 group pipelines, with low initial flow rates and a line heated system, created an aggressive corrosion environment that required a high degree of operational prudence and pigging frequency to mitigate internal corrosion.

Rainbow Bivouac Gas Project

British Columbia
The project consisted of gathering pipelines and satellite in British Columbia, an NEB regulated cross-border pipeline, and gathering pipeline and gas batteries in Alberta, connecting to Husky's existing gas facilities for the purpose of supplying additional gas for the Rainbow Lake enhanced oil recovery plant. BC Oil and Gas Commission applications and approvals for the NPS 4 pipelines, wellsite facilities and satellite. NEB Section 58, NPS 4 x 9 km long, pipeline application and approval, EUB and AENV conservation and reclamation approvals for the Alberta pipeline ( NPS 6 x 18 km long ) and EUB approval for the Alberta gas batteries, including ABSA piping registrations.

Ethylene Pipeline Looping Study

Alberta
A detailed engineering study to develop a Contingency Plan to loop an existing NPS 12 Ethylene Pipeline. The study emphasized providing the maximum amount of operating flexibility for the owner/operator, whose business is totally dependent upon maintaining continuity of supply. Since the existing pipeline passes through area of high consequence, ( a heavily populated region and close to a Native reserve ), the study involved developing several alternative routes and investigating their environmental and likely socio-economic impacts. Minimizing construction costs was another focus, since the pipeline had to traverse a major Highway, several rail crossings and a number of small river crossings. A comprehensive construction schedule was developed; including detailed public consultation and regulatory permit requirements.
