Intelligent Piping & Instrument Diagrams ( P&IDs ) are a vital tool throughout the lifecycle of any facility. Intelligent P&IDs contain links to a database that provides an array of information on any area selected such as specifications and notations. P&IDs are the cornerstone of information transfer, encapsulating a facility’s overall design including: the functional connectivity of equipment, piping and instruments. Data that is generated for equipment, piping and instruments in multiple drawings is stored in an integrated database. Data is shared between users and is ideal for data management during all lifecycle phases of a facility ( design, construction, commissioning, start-up, operations, maintenance and reclamation ). Tartan’s chosen P&ID technology incorporates the Bentley AutoPLANT® PIW suite of software.

Tartan Engineering Ltd. has successfully incorporated a number of work practices and software into our way of doing business to provide our Clients with industry best practices scaled to the level appropriate for the size of the project. The advantages of applying these tools have been widely acknowledged within the construction industry, but the ability to cost effectively apply these tools and work practices to a variety of project sizes has not been widely undertaken. Tartan’s standard practice is to implement these tools on all projects. This decision is supported by Key Performance Indicators ( KPI’s ) based on input from key stakeholders, including contractors, showing significant benefits.

Tartan Engineering Ltd. uses a Document Management Software system provided by a local Calgary company. This system provides efficient document control and project management solutions to engineering, telecommunication and construction industries.

This system allows for easy and secure file sharing regardless of location where internet access is available. It is dependable and has strong quality management features including revisioning, accessing and redlining history.
